September 01, 2017 Friedrich Rushes 200 A/C Units to Aid Aransas County Emergency Responders in Wake of Hurricane Harvey Devastation

Local Officials Say Need for Aid is Huge in Small Coastal Communities Hit by Harvey

San Antonio, TX (September 01, 2017) – SAN ANTONIO, Texas– On Friday, 200 Friedrich Chill room air conditioners, totaling 10,400-pounds of window A/C units worth an estimated $55,000, will be loaded up for delivery to Rockport, a town almost completely devastated by Hurricane and Tropical Storm Harvey.

The Friedrich A/C units will be used by the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department, which is struggling to provide shelter for emergency responders in the area, including law enforcement officers, volunteer firefighters and emergency medical personnel and dispatchers, after many have lost their own homes and businesses. As a result, nearly 100 emergency responders are currently camped out in the tiny Rockport fire station, where conditions are exhausting, uncomfortable and cramped. The situation is similar across the county, in fire stations and police stations alike.

"The destruction is unfathomable and the community desperately needs help, so we’re doing everything we can to keep our local emergency responders in the area," said Gillian Tate, volunteer firefighter. "Those of us that still have homes standing in the area must get them up and running as soon as possible with water, showers, and air conditioning, to provide adequate shelter for our emergency responders so they can continue to provide assistance and support for so many here who need it."

Earlier this week, Tate posted a plea on Rockport Volunteer Fire Department’s Facebook page, asking for a donation of air conditioning units to help emergency responders throughout Aransas County to start rebuilding their own lives while they work around the clock to assist the community. Having witnessed the wrath of Harvey on so many local communities in horror, San Antonio-based Friedrich didn’t hesitate when it saw Rockport’s request for the large donation of air conditioners.

"Friedrich contacted us and asked, 'tell us what you need,’" said Tate. "I said we have an urgent need for 50 A/C units, but we could really use 200. They said, 'consider it done.’"

Because freight transportation to the area is severely limited due to the extensive storm damage, Friedrich employee volunteers are handling the transportation and delivery themselves, making the 175-mile journey to deliver the units directly to the Rockport Volunteer Fire Department. Local officials there will coordinate the distribution of the units to emergency responders throughout the county, based on individual needs.

"With a nearly 140-year history in Texas and so many strong ties to these communities, we are grateful to be able to lend a hand and hope that it will provide some relief to those who are suffering so much right now," said Chuck Campbell, CEO of Friedrich.

In the wake of Harvey’s devastation, small towns are doing what they can to combat a shortage of relief assistance. According to Tate, with the focus of efforts understandably concentrated in the Houston area, support from individuals and companies like Friedrich are now even more essential for smaller communities like Rockport.

"Our emergency responders are literally a lifeline to getting our communities back on their feet," said Gillian. "They are working around the clock so right now, there's people sleeping in the middle of the room while meetings are being held and we’re trying to get things accomplished. People are getting burned out and exhausted. For them to be able to help others, our first step has to be to get them back home. We simply can’t do that without this kind of support."

July 25, 2017 Friedrich's VRP HVAC System Lands Award of Excellence for Indoor Air Quality Innovation

San Antonio, TX (July 25, 2017) – Industry awards continue to stack up for Friedrich Air Conditioning Company's innovative VRP (Variable Refrigerant Packaged) Heat Pump system.

Most recently, Friedrich's VRP system was named a Silver Award Winner for Excellence in the Indoor Air Quality category by The Air Conditioning Heating & Refrigeration News (ACHR News) magazine. Friedrich was honored as part of the magazine's 14th annual Dealer Design Awards Program, as judged by an independent panel of contractors.

Unlike other systems, VRP is earning notoriety as a total HVAC solution that utilizes a Precision Inverter compressor that gives it exceptional performance, increased efficiencies of up to 20 SEER and 13.0 EER and reduces sound. VRP also is an indoor air quality game changer, incorporating patents-pending make-up air and sophisticated humidity control with onboard sensors that monitor and adjust compressor speeds to enhance dehumidification. Friedrich's FreshAire system™ helps building owners meet ASHRAE 61.1-2013 for conditioned fresh air, bringing in up to 70 CFM of conditioned, MERV 8-filtered outside air, without the cost or complexity associated with large dedicated outside air systems.

In addition to the latest award from ACHR News, VRP was honored as a 2017 AHR (International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Exposition) Expo Innovation Award finalist in the Indoor Air Quality category earlier this year.

"Our goal is provide innovative products to the market, and bring new advancements to our customers that offer them greater benefits than ever before," said Chuck Campbell, CEO of Friedrich Air Conditioning Co. "VRP fits into that category and we're proud that Friedrich's leadership is being recognized in this way."

Other notable VRP benefits include a variable refrigerant flow, along with the convenience and maintenance advantage of a closet-mounted single packaged unit. Because Friedrich VRP units are fully contained with "in-closet" design flexibility, it helps keep upfront installed costs low, and offers simple replacement and maintenance advantages. This all-in-one solution offers great benefits for hospitality, multi-family and commercial applications, delivering best-in-class heating and cooling efficiency, easy installation, true humidity control and conditioned fresh air all while maintaining low upfront and operational costs.

July 21, 2017 Friedrich Ductless Systems Star in FYI's "You Can't Turn That into a House" Television Series

San Antonio, TX (July 21, 2017) – Take the wildest, wackiest, most challenging structures, and then imagine completely transforming them into beautiful, livable spaces.

That's the concept of FYI's new television series "You Can't Turn That Into A House," which premieres this month and airs Saturdays at 9:30 p.m. EST. The show highlights how unusual structures, like an old, abandoned industrial storage tank, can be turned into surprising, ingenious and luxurious dream homes.

Among many obstacles and challenges faced by "You Can't Turn That Into A House" creators included how to maximize comfort in these extraordinary structures. For that, they turned to Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., a leading manufacturer of air conditioners and other home environment products. Friedrich provided all the HVAC equipment for the show's 13 episodes, working hand-in-glove with the show's renovation team to install the right solution for these highly unique and customized spaces.

For each project, Friedrich provided a ductless HVAC system, which offers a scalable solution for additions, retrofit and renovation projects where complicated ductwork installation or re-routing is not feasible. Friedrich ductless systems also offer major advantages when it comes to conditioning air faster and maintaining more accurate temperatures. Because space was at a premium for all the "You Can't Turn That Into A House" retrofits, with some totaling less than 100 square feet, Friedrich ductless also provided a compact solution that didn't take away from the interior design.

Another challenge was the remoteness of some of the "You Can't Turn That Into A House" locations. With options of 115V up to 230V, Friedrich ductless systems can operate from a generator, which was a necessity for many of the projects. Thanks to Friedrich's Precision Inverter® technology, the active filtering of voltage keeps the incoming voltage steady to help maximize comfort.

"Each one of these projects is truly unique and different, which is why the flexibility of our ductless system was the perfect answer," said Chris Magee, Friedrich product expert. "It's an HVAC solution that can go where others simply can't."

While the network is keeping each project featured on "You Can't Turn That Into A House" under wraps until the episodes air, Magee says viewers are sure to be surprised by some of the unbelievable, eclectic projects that are hard for anyone to imagine living in, until they see the end results.

"The moral of the story is that what once used to be unthinkable when it comes to creating inhabitable, comfortable and beautiful spaces is now within reach, thanks to solutions like ductless HVAC systems," he said. "With ductless, if you can dream it, there's probably a way to cool and heat it."

About Friedrich ductless systems

Friedrich's two distinct lines of ductless system offerings are based on SEER efficiency. The company's mid-tier 16 SEER Floating Air Series comes in five models, with 115 volt and 230/208-volt heat pump capacity and is very competitively priced. Friedrich's top-tier line is the 20 SEER J Series, which is available in more than 1,000 multi-zone configurations, including wall-mounted, ceiling cassette and concealed duct models. This series is wide and deep, supporting up to eight interior zones with one outdoor unit and customers can choose from single-zone cooling models, single-zone heat pumps that cool and heat, and multi-zone heat pumps that cool and heat multiple rooms.

June 12, 2017 Friedrich Donates Air Conditioning Units to Help Provide Relief for Homeless Families in Rochester

San Antonio, TX (June 12, 2017) – Homeless families in Rochester, N.Y., will get additional relief this season, thanks to a generous donation from Friedrich Air Conditioning Company.

Friedrich has partnered with its local Rochester distributor, Johnstone Supply, to provide Friedrich Chill? room air conditioning units for 11 homes owned and managed by Tempro, a Rochester-based nonprofit organization that builds housing for homeless families. Tempro homes are leased by Monroe County and the county's Department of Social Services places families in need in the homes. Tempro provides the furnished homes with the aid of a social worker to help these families through the transition of homelessness to more permanent housing.

Tempro provides temporary housing assistance to approximately 140 homeless families and without support from Friedrich, the organization would not have been able to afford to cool the homes and ensure the comfort of those it serves during the hot weather season. "For homeless families working to get back on their feet, finding safe, temporary housing is challenging and stressful enough without also enduring the hot weather season with no relief," said Tempro President Jerry Zakalik. "That's why we are so grateful for this very generous donation and service to our community."

Already, contractors have installed one of the Friedrich Chill units in the first Tempro home, and the remaining 10 will be installed in the other residences in the coming weeks. In addition to the value of providing all the product, delivery and support at no cost, Friedrich's Chill units also are ENERGY STAR-qualified, which will help save money on energy and long-term operational costs. Other benefits of the Friedrich Chill line include powerful and quiet operation and environmentally sustainable features, such as R32 refrigerant with low Global Warming Potential.

As a father from one of the families living in a home where a new Chill unit was recently installed said, "It means so much to us to have a place to stay while we go through this challenge. To know someone really cares and is even installing air conditioners is just awesome."

As a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of air conditioners and other home environment products, Friedrich has a strong track record of giving back to local communities and causes, and the donation to Tempro marks the second major donation the company has made this season. In April, Friedrich donated and installed a ductless split air conditioning system in an orphanage near Piedra Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, where without cooling, indoor temperatures can spike up to a sweltering 120 degrees.

"We're proud to serve the community in this way and know that our products are providing great relief for those in need," said Wink Chapman, vice president of sales and marketing for Friedrich. "It's also fantastic to be able work with strong partners, like our Johnstone Supply distributor in the Rochester area, who share our commitment to support local communities."

April 24, 2017 For Orphanage in Dire Need, Air Conditioning Donation from Friedrich Provides True Relief

San Antonio, TX (April 24, 2017) – They are abandoned, or have lived in unimaginable conditions. They arrive frightened, in need of safety and are completely dependent on the mercy of others to help care for them.

Such is the life for the orphans and foster kids who arrive at Casa de Misericordia (House of Mercy) near Piedra Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, where children who have been abandoned or removed from their home due to severe neglect or unsafe conditions are provided with a secure place, food and a caring, stable environment. For the 30-40 children who call Casa de Misericordia home at any given time, that environment now can offer even greater relief, thanks to a donation from Friedrich, a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of air conditioners and other home environment products.

The company recently donated and volunteered the installation of two Friedrich ductless split air conditioning systems at the Casa de Misericordia, providing major respite and comfort for the children and caregivers at the orphanage. Given Piedras Negras' arid climate, average temperatures range from 90 to 100 degrees from May through September, which can cause the temperature inside Casa de Misericordia to spike up to 120 degrees.

Casa de Misericordia is assisted by Aleluya Ministries of Hope in San Antonio, a nonprofit organization that helps churches and orphanages in Piedras Negras. With no government support and extremely limited resources to operate, being able to afford the latest air conditioning technology was only something the orphanage could dream of. The building has no ductwork and the organization can barely afford to pay its electricity bills, so Friedrich ductless systems provide an important solution. Friedrich ductless system benefits include reduced energy use, the ability to provide powerful performance without the need for ductwork, maximum airflow and sound reduction.

Friedrich employees also volunteered to travel to Piedras Negras on their own time to do all the necessary installation of the donated equipment themselves.

"We are so grateful for the generous hearts at Friedrich for providing air conditioning," said Wendy Meaden, treasurer of Aleluya Ministries of Hope. "It is a blessing for the poor and orphaned children and adults. One can imagine how hot it is in the summer, and we are so thankful to the Friedrich team who recently installed the units."

In addition to the donation at Casa de Misericordia, Friedrich has made significant donations of air conditioning units and systems to Aleluya Ministries of Hope during the past two years. In 2015, the company provided three ductless split systems and two room air conditioning units to the Templo Aleluya Church and Rey de Reyes, which provides services and care for children in need. Friedrich also donated five ductless split systems to Casa Bethesda Orphanage, a refuge for orphaned or abandoned kids and adults with disabilities and special needs.

Friedrich helps install donated A/C at Piedras Negras orphanage

"This is truly a labor of love," said Wink Chapman, vice president of sales and marketing for Friedrich. "Friedrich takes great pride in extending a helping hand to our neighbors in Mexico, especially children who struggle every day to survive in an area plagued by peril."

March 16, 2017 Smart, Silent Type: Friedrich's Kühl Line Raises IQ of Room Air Conditioners

San Antonio, TX (March 16, 2017) – For Friedrich, a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of air conditioners and other home environment products, true engineering beauty lies in what homeowners may not be able to see or hear.

That's the inspiration behind Friedrich's complete line of Kühl room air conditioners that will be highlighted at the 2017 International Home and Housewares Show in Chicago, March 18-21. Friedrich is the only U.S.-based manufacturer to offer an entire line of room air conditioners with smart grid connectivity capability on the backend. The unit's ThinkEco smartAC platform makes it possible for utilities to connect, monitor and control these units during times of high energy use and strain on the power grid. That's important, as more utilities such as Con Edison in New York, are offering smart air conditioning programs that give their customers incentives for enrolling. With FriedrichLinkTM Wi-Fi connectivity homeowners also can remotely control their units via their computers and smart phones to set their comfort level from anywhere, anytime.

Friedrich Kühl not only offers brains, but beauty too, which in this case lies in the ears of beholders. Kühl is one of the quietest room A/C solutions on the market. Extra thick rubber grommets absorb vibration and reduce noise, while steel inner walls and extra dense insulation block outdoor sounds. The company has taken painstaking measures to ensure every moving part has been braced and insulated. Kühl's unique air path is more streamlined, drawing air away from moving parts and allowing for smoother airflow, delivering maximum conditioned air quality.

Known for product design innovation, Friedrich has a state-of-the-art lab at its San Antonio headquarters where the company's technicians continually innovate, advance and rigorously test the latest product design and sound reduction capabilities. According to Friedrich experts, it's that investment and attention to detail that has helped the company set industry standards for performance and innovation.

"Choosing the right A/C unit can have a significant impact on a homeowner's daily life," said TJ Wheeler, Friedrich VP of Marketing and Product Management. "The ability to consistently regulate temperature, energy use and money savings through innovative smart technology is essential, but we also pay special attention to things like noise control and improving indoor air quality, which can impact overall comfort and even sleep."

Friedrich's largest Kühl unit can produce up to 36,000 BTUs, and ENERGY STAR® qualified models are available in a variety of different sizes, starting at 6,000 BTUs. The Kühl series has cooling-only models and models with heat (heat pump or electric heat) in a full range of capacities so they can operate as year-round central-like systems. Friedrich Kühl units are available through authorized dealers and retailers throughout the nation.

Friedrich Product News Fact Sheet

Highlights for 2017 Home and Housewares Show

Air conditioning products have evolved tremendously from what most homeowners used to know. Friedrich, a leading air conditioning company, is continuing to push the envelope when it comes to style, performance, technology and efficiency. At this year's International Home and Housewares Show, in addition to its Kühl series, Friedrich will be showcasing its wide selection of innovative solutions, including:

Friedrich WallMaster

For years, New Yorkers and other east coast homeowners have been dealing with room air conditioning sleeve openings that were originally designed for the more than two million 27-inch sleeves made by the now defunct Fedders company. Friedrich is the only through-the-wall air conditioner manufacturer that has a perfectly-sized solution to fit into those openings with its popular WallMaster series. Stylish WallMaster updates include adjustable louvers to help direct air where it is needed, a sleek, gently curved solid front that better blends with a home's interior architecture and an updated control panel. It also can help save money; Friedrich offers ENERGY STAR® qualified models and all WallMaster units come with Friedrich's exclusive Money Saver setting cycles.

Friedrich Chill and Uni-Fit with R32 technology

Friedrich is once again innovating the air cooling market with a variety of solutions that are not only energy efficient and meet ENERGY STAR-qualified standards, but address other environmental issues. Friedrich is one of the first air conditioning manufacturers in the U.S. to use R32, a next-generation refrigerant that doesn't harm the ozone layer with both low Global Warming Potential (GWP) and low Life Cycle Climate Performance (LCCP). Added benefits of R32 include increased efficiency and less refrigerant volume needed, meaning air conditioners with R32 use even less power and chemical refrigerant to achieve the same cooling levels. For 2017, six models in Friedrich's Chill series and five models in the Uni-Fit line will use R32 technology.

Friedrich Air Purifiers

Bacteria, tobacco smoke, pet dander and other allergens are no match for Friedrich's AP260 5-stage air purifiers. With Intelligent Auto Operation, it automatically senses changes in air quality and adjusts cleaning level accordingly. It's also ultra-quiet, ENERGY STAR® qualified and easy to operate, indicating air quality through a unique LED display. The enhanced HEPA filter captures up to 99.97% of all particles as small as .3 microns. Friedrich Air Purifiers are tested and rated by the Association of Home Appliance Manufacturer (AHAM), an independent organization.

Friedrich ZoneAire Portable Series

Convenience goes mobile with Friedrich's ZoneAire portable cooling and heating solutions. Friedrich's dual hose, 4-in-1 system offers up to 40 percent faster cooling, plus dehumidifying capabilities and a fan all in one system that's quick to install and provides cooling on the go. For compact spot cooling in areas such as home offices, workshops or bedrooms, Friedrich's ZoneAire Compact is a solid choice. Unique features include "Bonus Heat," allowing homeowners to simply turn around the unit and use an exclusive heat transfer clip to provide heat when desired.

Friedrich Dehumidifiers

From damp to the wettest areas, Friedrich offers 25, 50 and 70 pint dehumidifier options, perfect for small or large spaces. All models come equipped with easy to operate digital touch controls, customizable humidity level settings and continuous-drainage operation. Larger 50 and 70 pint ENERGY STAR® qualified models have built-in drain pumps to remove condensation up to 15 feet in any direction. Condensation has met its match with Friedrich's portable dehumidifier options.

January 30, 2017 Flexibility Key to Friedrich's Ductless Product Offering

San Antonio, TX (January 30, 2017) – What's one of the biggest trends in North America for the HVAC industry in 2017? Central is out, and ductless systems are in.

There are plenty of good reasons why more commercial and residential customers are adopting ductless system solutions in place of old-tech, costly and bulky central split systems. Ductless systems offer major advantages and unbeatable performance when it comes to conditioning air faster, maintaining more accurate temperatures and reducing energy costs. Ductless systems also provide a scalable solution for additions, retrofit and renovation projects where complicated ductwork installation or re-routing is not feasible.

But until now, the tremendous flexibility that ductless systems deliver hasn't translated to the perfect fit of product line options for dealers and distributors. Friedrich is one of the only manufacturers in North America to now offer both a top-tier and mid-tier line of ductless systems, based on the needs, budgets and priorities of its customers. With decades of experience as a leading manufacturer of innovative HVAC solutions, Friedrich also provides comprehensive training and service to support both of its top and mid-tier ductless system lines.

Friedrich's two distinct lines of ductless system offerings are based on SEER efficiency. The company's mid-tier 16 SEER Floating Air Series comes in five models, with 115 volt and 230/208 volt heat pump units and is very competitively priced. Friedrich's top-tier line is the 20 SEER J Series, which is available in more than 1,000 multizone configurations, including wall-mounted, ceiling cassette and concealed duct models. This series is wide and deep, supporting up to eight interior zones with one outdoor unit and customers can choose from single-zone cooling models, single-zone heat pumps that cool and heat, and multi-zone heat pumps that cool and heat multiple rooms.

These two distinct lines allow Friedrich to supply the right solution for whatever the need, and provide greater options for a wider range of potential customers looking for the best ductless solution for their new construction, retrofit or remodeling project.

"For maximum adoption and market penetration, ductless systems need to become more readily available to not only the upper end of the market, but for all types of customers," said TJ Wheeler, Friedrich VP of Marketing and Product Management. "By offering two complete yet distinct lines, Friedrich is expanding the opportunity for more customers to be able to take advantage of the many benefits ductless systems provide."

Friedrich ductless solutions deliver unbeatable efficiency and performance, thanks to the advantage of Friedrich's Precision Inverter System. This system makes changes in 1Hz increments, allowing the unit to run at variable speeds and deliver the most precise heating-cooling solution. The company offers a wide variety of ENERGY STAR models in both single and multi-zone configurations.

Better servicing is another advantage with Friedrich's ductless products. The company has introduced a new wireless diagnostic tool, the DWTST. Available for Friedrich J Series ductless split systems, the DWTST connects wirelessly to a smart phone or tablet, giving contractors access to real time monitoring and diagnostics for quick service responses. As a commitment to increasing knowledge and training for the ductless category, Friedrich offers the Advantage Program to encourage top dealers to become part of a motivated team of industry professionals dedicated to the sale, installation and support of Friedrich ductless systems through product training, rewards and warranty benefits.

Friedrich's largest Kühl unit is capable of producing up to 36,000 BTUs and ENERGY STAR® qualified models are available in a variety of different sizes. The Kühl line has cooling-only models and models with heat (heat pump or electric heat) in a full range of capacities so they can operate as year-round central-like systems.

Yet Kühl's real genius lies in its brainy backend. With FriedrichLinkTM Wi-Fi connectivity that allows homeowners to remotely control their units via their computers and smart phones to set their comfort level from anywhere, anytime, Friedrich is the only U.S. manufacturer to offer an entire line of room air conditioners with smart grid connectivity using the ThinkEco smartAC platform. The smartAC platform makes it possible for utilities to connect, monitor and control Kühl units on the backend during times of high energy use and strain on the power grid.

Friedrich WallMaster: A Perfect Fit

For years, New Yorkers and other east coast homeowners have been dealing with troublesome room air conditioning sleeve openings that were originally designed for the more than two million 27-inch sleeves made by the now defunct Fedders company. Friedrich is the only through-the-wall air conditioner manufacturer that has a perfect solution to fit into those openings with its popular WallMaster series.

"For homeowners, finding a unit that fits perfectly has been a significant issue," said Wheeler. "The wrong sized unit can be noisy and inefficient, allowing pests and drafts to seep in. WallMaster is the optimal solution for this major problem that impacts so many homeowners."

Stylish WallMaster updates include adjustable louvers to help direct air where it is needed, a sleek, gently curved solid front that better blends with a home's interior architecture and an updated control panel. Beloved by homeowners for its powerful, quiet and efficient operation, WallMaster is also safe and more secure, with EntryGard anti-intrusion protection, an added insect barrier and a prefixed gasket that seals itself for a perfect fit. It also can help save money; Friedrich offers ENERGY STAR® qualified models and all WallMaster units come with Friedrich's exclusive Money Saver setting cycles.
