January 30, 2017 Flexibility Key to Friedrich's Ductless Product Offering

San Antonio, TX (January 30, 2017) – What's one of the biggest trends in North America for the HVAC industry in 2017? Central is out, and ductless systems are in.

There are plenty of good reasons why more commercial and residential customers are adopting ductless system solutions in place of old-tech, costly and bulky central split systems. Ductless systems offer major advantages and unbeatable performance when it comes to conditioning air faster, maintaining more accurate temperatures and reducing energy costs. Ductless systems also provide a scalable solution for additions, retrofit and renovation projects where complicated ductwork installation or re-routing is not feasible.

But until now, the tremendous flexibility that ductless systems deliver hasn't translated to the perfect fit of product line options for dealers and distributors. Friedrich is one of the only manufacturers in North America to now offer both a top-tier and mid-tier line of ductless systems, based on the needs, budgets and priorities of its customers. With decades of experience as a leading manufacturer of innovative HVAC solutions, Friedrich also provides comprehensive training and service to support both of its top and mid-tier ductless system lines.

Friedrich's two distinct lines of ductless system offerings are based on SEER efficiency. The company's mid-tier 16 SEER Floating Air Series comes in five models, with 115 volt and 230/208 volt heat pump units and is very competitively priced. Friedrich's top-tier line is the 20 SEER J Series, which is available in more than 1,000 multizone configurations, including wall-mounted, ceiling cassette and concealed duct models. This series is wide and deep, supporting up to eight interior zones with one outdoor unit and customers can choose from single-zone cooling models, single-zone heat pumps that cool and heat, and multi-zone heat pumps that cool and heat multiple rooms.

These two distinct lines allow Friedrich to supply the right solution for whatever the need, and provide greater options for a wider range of potential customers looking for the best ductless solution for their new construction, retrofit or remodeling project.

"For maximum adoption and market penetration, ductless systems need to become more readily available to not only the upper end of the market, but for all types of customers," said TJ Wheeler, Friedrich VP of Marketing and Product Management. "By offering two complete yet distinct lines, Friedrich is expanding the opportunity for more customers to be able to take advantage of the many benefits ductless systems provide."

Friedrich ductless solutions deliver unbeatable efficiency and performance, thanks to the advantage of Friedrich's Precision Inverter System. This system makes changes in 1Hz increments, allowing the unit to run at variable speeds and deliver the most precise heating-cooling solution. The company offers a wide variety of ENERGY STAR models in both single and multi-zone configurations.

Better servicing is another advantage with Friedrich's ductless products. The company has introduced a new wireless diagnostic tool, the DWTST. Available for Friedrich J Series ductless split systems, the DWTST connects wirelessly to a smart phone or tablet, giving contractors access to real time monitoring and diagnostics for quick service responses. As a commitment to increasing knowledge and training for the ductless category, Friedrich offers the Advantage Program to encourage top dealers to become part of a motivated team of industry professionals dedicated to the sale, installation and support of Friedrich ductless systems through product training, rewards and warranty benefits.

January 30, 2017 Room Air Conditioning Solutions Get Customized

San Antonio, TX (January 30, 2017) – Looking for more efficiency? Better style? Quieter yet powerful performance? Want smart grid capabilities or wireless connectivity? Need a specialized size or a commercial unit designed to handle the toughest conditions?

Room air conditioners have evolved tremendously from what most home and business owners used to know and Friedrich, a leading air conditioning company, is continuing to push the envelope when it comes to style, performance, technology and efficiency. The company offers the broadest range of options designed to help fulfill a variety of needs, no matter what the priority. At this year's International Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Exposition (AHR), Friedrich will be showcasing its wide selection of room air conditioning solutions, including its Kühl®, WallMaster® and Hazardgard® lines.

"Innovation is the name of the game this year, and once people start researching all the options available, they're surprised to learn that they have so many solutions to choose from that can meet their individual needs and requirements," said TJ Wheeler, Friedrich VP of Marketing and Product Management.

Friedrich Kühl: Powerful, Smart and Efficient with Looks to Match

Quiet, precise and reliable, Friedrich's complete Kühl line represents the next generation of room air conditioners. Lauded for sleek style that take the concept of room air conditioners to a whole new level, Kühl is the perfect solution for the design conscious homeowner. It's also a powerhouse with a high energy efficiency IQ. The Kühl line is also the most rugged and dependable line of products suitable for some of the most demanding applications. Friedrich's largest Kühl unit is capable of producing up to 36,000 BTUs and ENERGY STAR® qualified models are available in a variety of different sizes. The Kühl line has cooling-only models and models with heat (heat pump or electric heat) in a full range of capacities so they can operate as year-round central-like systems.

Yet Kühl's real genius lies in its brainy backend. With FriedrichLinkTM Wi-Fi connectivity that allows homeowners to remotely control their units via their computers and smart phones to set their comfort level from anywhere, anytime, Friedrich is the only U.S. manufacturer to offer an entire line of room air conditioners with smart grid connectivity using the ThinkEco smartAC platform. The smartAC platform makes it possible for utilities to connect, monitor and control Kühl units on the backend during times of high energy use and strain on the power grid.

Friedrich WallMaster: A Perfect Fit

For years, New Yorkers and other east coast homeowners have been dealing with troublesome room air conditioning sleeve openings that were originally designed for the more than two million 27-inch sleeves made by the now defunct Fedders company. Friedrich is the only through-the-wall air conditioner manufacturer that has a perfect solution to fit into those openings with its popular WallMaster series.

"For homeowners, finding a unit that fits perfectly has been a significant issue," said Wheeler. "The wrong sized unit can be noisy and inefficient, allowing pests and drafts to seep in. WallMaster is the optimal solution for this major problem that impacts so many homeowners."

Stylish WallMaster updates include adjustable louvers to help direct air where it is needed, a sleek, gently curved solid front that better blends with a home's interior architecture and an updated control panel. Beloved by homeowners for its powerful, quiet and efficient operation, WallMaster is also safe and more secure, with EntryGard anti-intrusion protection, an added insect barrier and a prefixed gasket that seals itself for a perfect fit. It also can help save money; Friedrich offers ENERGY STAR® qualified models and all WallMaster units come with Friedrich's exclusive Money Saver setting cycles.

Friedrich Hazardgard: Tough to the Extreme

Tough, durable and powerful to the extreme, Hazardgard is engineered to perform in some of the world's most demanding conditions, making it the ultimate choice for international industrial users. Friedrich's Hazardgard line is specifically designed for use in off shore oil rigs, petrochemical sites, manufacturing mills, chemical processing plants, hazardous materials storage facilities. Hazardgard has several third party certifications such as UL Class 1 Div 2 certification as well as models meeting ATEX certification, making it the most reliable choice for extreme conditions.

January 30, 2017 Friedrich Moves to Take Lead in Lodging

San Antonio, TX (January 30, 2017) – With the official launch of VRP® (Variable Refrigerant Packaged) Heat Pump system, Friedrich Air Conditioning Co. has grabbed a commanding position as a top provider of HVAC solutions for the lodging market.

Friedrich's just-introduced VRP system gives the company the ability to offer the widest range of HVAC solutions designed for the lodging industry–from top tier, full service hotels to mid-tier and more modest facilities. The company is showcasing its entire range of solutions, from the new VRP system to its popular Vert-I-Pak and PTAC models, at this year's International Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Exposition (AHR), Jan. 30–Feb. 1, in Las Vegas, Nev.

"Friedrich offers the most options when it comes to efficient, effective and top quality products for the lodging industry," said TJ Wheeler, Friedrich VP of Marketing and Product Management. "No other HVAC manufacturer can say they have the breadth or depth of HVAC solutions designed to meet the unique, individual needs of these types of customers."

VRP: Friedrich's Latest Innovation for Lodging

Designed for full and select service properties where maximum comfort, quiet and interior design are top priorities, VRP is a total HVAC solution. It delivers best-in-class heating and cooling efficiency, exceptional sound levels, easy installation, conditioned fresh air and true humidity control, all while maintaining low upfront and operational costs.

Friedrich's patented VRP system is unique in that it combines variable refrigerant flow technology with the convenience and simplistic design of a closet-mounted single packaged unit. The system utilizes a Precision Inverter Compressor that gives it exceptional performance and reduces sound. The variable capacity matches the unit's output to actual demand for increased comfort; this provides lower energy consumption and improved humidity control.

VRP is so efficient at automatically adjusting capacity to meet specific cooling needs, it delivers efficiencies of up to 20 SEER and 13.0 EER. VRP also features exceptional low-ambient heat pump operations down to 0 degrees Fahrenheit, potentially saving hundreds of dollars per year. Plus, it reaches desired temperatures faster than conventional systems by exceeding the capacity when needed, unlike single-speed units.

Recently named a 2017 AHR Expo finalist in the Indoor Air Quality category, Friedrich VRP incorporates patents-pending make-up air and humidity control, using sophisticated onboard sensors that adjust and monitor compressor speeds to enhance dehumidification. Friedrich's FreshAire® system helps building owners meet ASHRAE 62.1-2013 for conditioned fresh air, bringing in up to 70 CFM of conditioned, MERV 8-filtered outside air, without the cost or complexity associated with large dedicated outside air systems.

Friedrich VRP® system

Because Friedrich VRP units are fully contained with "in closet" design flexibility, it helps keep upfront installed costs low, and offers simple replacement and maintenance, a great advantage for not only hospitality, but also multi-family and commercial applications.

Vert-I-Pak and PTAC: Friedrich's Family of HVAC Lodging Options

In addition to the new VRP system, Friedrich also offers other leading HVAC options for the lodging, multi-family and commercial industry, including its Vert-I-Pak series. This single package vertical air conditioner unit is completely self-contained and closet-mounted, eliminating the need for multiple through-the-wall units. Vert-I-Pak is out of sight, efficient, easy to maintain and install, making it a preferred choice for many mid and top-tier lodging properties. It also increases guest comfort, thanks to its "free floating" chassis design and superior insulation, helping eliminate vibration noise and ensuring smooth, quiet operation.

For other lodging facilities and chains, Friedrich's popular PTAC (Packaged Terminal Air Conditioners) is a top contender. Super reliable, efficient and ultra-quiet, Friedrich's PTAC units have an advanced design for greater energy efficiency and style, plus an industry leading warranty. Guests appreciate the fact that Friedrich PTAC units have a wide path of air flow that reaches the furthest corner of the guest room more quietly than conventional fans. These systems also have advanced energy saving features, saving operators money with real-time motion and thermal occupancy detection, automatic temperature adjustment capabilities and the optional ability for remote, web-based management.

"When it comes to the lodging industry, one size definitely does not fit all. That's why we're pleased to be able to offer the most complete range of top-quality solutions for all types of lodging facilities–from full service to value chains," said Wheeler. "No matter what the choice, going with Friedrich leads to happier guests, and ultimately better bottom lines."

September 28, 2016 Friedrich Launches VRP, a 'Game Changer' for the Industry

San Antonio, TX (September 28, 2016) – Friedrich Air Conditioning Co., a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of air conditioners and other home environment products, has unveiled a cutting edge new solution for the hospitality and multi-unit housing industries with the launch of its VRP® (Variable Refrigerant Packaged) Heat Pump system.

Unlike other solutions, VRP is not only a heating or cooling unit, but a total HVAC solution that also incorporates patents-pending make-up air and humidity control. Friedrich's VRP system utilizes a Precision Inverter compressor that gives it exceptional performance and reduces sound. It combines variable refrigerant flow, along with the convenience and simplistic design of a closet-mounted single packaged unit. This all-in-one solution offers great advantages for hospitality, multi-family and commercial applications, delivering best-in-class heating and cooling efficiency, easy installation, true humidity control and conditioned fresh air all while maintaining low upfront and operational costs.

Friedrich's VRP system is such a game-changer that it was recently named a 2017 AHR (International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigeration Exposition) Expo Innovation Award finalist in the Indoor Air Quality category. Each year, AHR honors the most innovative and original products, systems and technologies as selected by a panel of third-party judges who evaluate all award entries based on innovative design, creativity, application, value and market impact. Friedrich, along with other award winners, will be recognized during the 2017 AHR Expo, Jan. 30–Feb. 1, 2017 in Las Vegas, Nev.

"The launch of VRP not only represents a major innovation for Friedrich, but for the entire industry. As the first to use variable speed compressor technology in the product category, VRP units have the ability to precisely modulate capacity, versus having to fully turn off and on to maintain a consistent temperature," said TJ Wheeler, Friedrich VP of Marketing and Product Management. "The variable speed nature of the unit also makes VRP extremely efficient and quiet while maximizing comfort and indoor air quality."

Friedrich VRP is so efficient at automatically adjusting capacity to meet specific cooling needs, it delivers efficiencies of up to 20 SEER and 13.0 EER. The variable capacity matches the unit's output to actual demand for increased comfort, lower energy consumption and improved humidity control. VRP also features exceptional low-ambient heat pump operations down to 15 degrees, potentially saving hundreds of dollars per year. Plus, it reaches desired temperatures faster than conventional systems.

When it comes to indoor air quality, Friedrich VRP offers sophisticated humidity control with onboard sensors that adjust and monitor compressor speeds to enhance dehumidification. Friedrich's FreshAire system helps building owners meet ASHRAE 62.1-2013 for conditioned fresh air, bringing in up to 70 CFM of conditioned, MERV 8-filtered outside air, without the cost or complexity associated with large dedicated outside air systems.

Ease of installation is also a major benefit. Because Friedrich VRP units are fully contained with "in closet" design flexibility, it helps keep upfront installed costs low, and offers simple replacement and maintenance advantages.

"VRP offers strong benefits for the industry that until this time, simply couldn't be found in an all-in-one solution," said Wheeler. "We're thrilled to be able to bring this innovation to the market."

September 19, 2016 Friedrich Goes Modular in Major Way with Vert-I-Pak Solution

San Antonio, TX (September 19, 2016) – While modular building and construction have boomed in recent years, the HVAC industry hasn’t always kept step with the needs of commercial modular builders. For sophisticated multi-level modular buildings such as hotels, senior care facilities and multi-family units, traditional HVAC solutions don’t necessarily align with the industry’s demands for efficient, simple and fast.

That’s rapidly changing thanks to Friedrich, a leading U.S.-based manufacturer of air conditioners and other home environment products. Friedrich is putting a major focus on delivering innovative and efficient HVAC solutions specifically designed to meet the needs of modular construction projects.

In particular, Friedrich’s Vert-I-Pak packaged units are increasingly popular with commercial modular builders that require a simple, efficient, self-contained, quiet and streamlined solution. Unlike split systems that involve multiple outdoor condensers, long duct runs and refrigerant lines, or chillers that lead to complicated piping and wiring, Vert-I-Pak provides modular builders with a compact, packaged profile that fits into a closet and can be incorporated into the overall modular manufacturing process. That turns setting the unit into a straightforward process–electrical, drainage and duct connections can be done by a single technician in minutes.

"It’s about as plug and play as you can get," said TJ Wheeler, Vice President of Marketing & Product Management. "Modular builders love it because it saves a tremendous amount of time, requires minimal labor, is completely out of sight and it reduces call-backs. Residents also love the comfort and convenience it offers because it’s quiet and efficient."

Vert-I-Pak right at home in high-end modular senior apartment project

High-end modular commercial projects that have turned to Friedrich’s Vert-I-Pak units include Magnolia by the Lake, a 125-unit senior-living modular apartment residence in Kegoo Harbor, Mich. Champion Commercial Structures, the modular builder responsible for the project, incorporates Friedrich’s Vert-I-Pak units right into its own manufacturing process. The units ship in place, saving installation time onsite and since Vert-I-Pak is out of sight, it doesn’t interfere with the beautiful architecture and design of the project.

"For Champion, Friedrich provided the upfront installation assistance and the back-end warranty support that will assure superior interior climate comfort for years to come," said Steve Snyder of Champion Commercial Structures.

Because modular building and efficiency also go hand-in-hand, the independent metering that Vert-I-Pak allows for is important for multi-tenant applications, eliminating the burden of prorating electric costs for heating and cooling. And unlike central systems, there’s less risk that an entire building becomes uninhabitable if the system needs to be repaired or replaced.

Friedrich Vert-I-Pak units also prove that power can come in a small package. Size varies based on capacity, but units as small as 23 inches wide and deep are available. Larger units, such as 1.5 ton sizes, are a minimum of 32 inches high and 2-ton units are just 47 inches high. AHRI-certified models are available with cooling capacities ranging from a nominal 9,000 BTU to 24,000 BTU. Electric heating is typically included.

"Innovative modular building projects require innovative solutions. Our Vert-I-Pak systems solve many of the challenges commercial modular builders face today while ensuring satisfied, happy tenants tomorrow," said Wheeler.
