Friedrich cooling only models were specifically designed without a drain plug. The condensation collects in the basepan or bottom of the unit and is picked up by a slinger ring. The slinger ring takes the condensation and throws it against the hot condenser coil where it evaporates. This method helps cool the condenser coil. The cooler the condenser coil, the better the BTU cooling capacity and efficiency of the air conditioner.
We do not recommend drilling a hole in the unit. This results in a loss of cooling capacity and efficiency. Drilling a hole also increased the likelihood of corrosion by exposing the unpainted edge to moisture. Additionally, you could possibly damage refrigerant lines or other internal components.
