A Friedrich ultra efficient 10,000 BTU/h SS10L10 costs 15% less to operate than a comparable model with the required minimum efficiency of 9.8. We based our calculations on AHAM's 498 annual hours of operation and local energy rates of 15 cents per kilowatt hour.
But we think that's conservative because if you typically run your air conditioner during non-working hours Monday through Friday and also on the weekends, that adds up to 1485 hours between June and August. Consider this cost of operation savings table showing savings by years of ownership and number of units.

MONEYSAVER MODE
When a unit is operating in "MoneySaver"
mode, the fan automatically turns off when
the compressor stops.
PROGRAMMABLE MODE
Models with electronic controls feature
programmable on/off times so that you can
set your unit to turn off when you leave and
back on before you return.
FRESH AIR INTAKE
Sometimes outdoor air is cooler than indoor
air. Models with this feature let air in by
opening the fresh air intake and turning on
the "fan only" setting to bring cool air indoors
and it's more efficient than running the unit
in cooling mode.
DRY MODE
Provides better dehumidification so that you
may feel comfortable at a higher temperature
set point.
