The Friedrich Story
Part 3
By 1950 Friedrich had become one of the world's largest manufacturers of commercial refrigeration equipment. To capitalize on this well-deserved reputation, the company entered the field of room air conditioners.
The first 500 floating air window units came off the assembly line in 1952 and sales began to climb.
Ultimately, this product line would constitute a significant portion of the company's total business.
Growth of the domestic and international markets for commercial refrigeration and room air conditioners prompted construction of Friedrich Plant No 3, a two-story 600,000 square-foot facility which also houses the corporate headquarters.
In January 1971, Friedrich moved to its present location on PanAm Expressway once part of Fort Sam Houston. The other two plants are no longer in operation.
Certainly, the most recognizable products are Friedrich room air conditioners, known for quality and dependability. Quite a few of the original room air conditioners are in operation today.
When Ed Friedrich started business, he thought of ways to conserve energy by building a quality product. He crafted an icebox to better conserve a natural resource - ice. One hundred years later, Friedrich is still conserving energy by paying attention to detail and craftsmanship. Friedrich people embrace the ideals set forth by Ed Friedrich and the ideals are reflected in their attitude and their work.
Many components go into a Friedrich product - condensers, fans, coils, motors. But the essential ingredients are still pride in people, the heritage, the product - Friedrich pride in everything they do.
